Dutch eye investments from India in IT, pharma sectors

The Netherlands government is eyeing more investments from India, amid the uncertainties surrounding the Brexit deal. The government of the Netherlands is projecting the country as an entry point to Europe to attract Indian firms.

The Dutch investment authority — Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) — is targeting €1 billion fund flows every year from at least 205 greenfield investment projects. About one-tenth of these investments are expected to come from India, with a focus on Information Technology and the life sciences sectors.

“IT and life-sciences are very well developed clusters both in the Netherlands as well as Bengaluru. The recent development of Brexit is putting all of the things in a higher gear — as more and more companies are looking into the Netherlands as their entry point into Europe,” said Jeroen Nijland, Foreign Investment Commissioner.

In 2018, the country had exceeded their investment targets, garnering €1.7 billion in 250 greenfield investments, helping generate 8,500 jobs.

There are around 250 Indian companies having their operations in the Netherlands. These companies have employed over 18,000 people, according to NFIA. Of the 250 companies, 20 of them are pharma giants such as Serum Institute of India, Dr. Reddys, Lupin, Sun Pharma, among others.
